It's one of the most famous battles in the Royal Navy's history - and today a special service will be held to remember the British victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. A ceremony will be held onboard HMS Victory.

Celebrating Britain's historic victory

Celebrations have been taking place today marking the South East's links with one of the most famous sea battles in history.

On this day in 1805 Admiral Lord Nelson died on board his flagship HMS Victory as Britain won a resounding victory at Trafalgar.

One man from Kent has been talking about his ancestor's links to Trafalgar - and to the great man himself. Derek Johnson brings us more.

A ceremony was held onboard the HMS Victory earlier today to commemorate the 208th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.

The ship itself was at the battle where it served as Lord Nelson’s flagship and remains commissioned ship in the Royal Navy and the oldest commissioned warship in the world.

The Battle of Trafalgar is one of the greatest battles in British naval history. Against a numerically superior Franco-Spanish Fleet it was the better tactics, leadership, equipment and personnel that won the battle.

Although the battle was a success, the victory would cost Admiral Lord Nelson his life.
