Kent County Council leader Cllr Paul Carter has announced a proposed council tax increase of 1.99 per cent - the maximum possible without triggering a referendum. It comes as County Hall struggles to balance the books in the face of cuts in Government grant.

600 council jobs at risk in Kent

Kent County Council leader Cllr Paul Carter has announced a proposed council tax increase of 1.99 per cent - the maximum possible without triggering a referendum. It comes as County Hall struggles to balance the books in the face of cuts in Government grant.

Cllr Carter said cuts "will leave no public service untouched". Up to 600 council jobs are at risk.
