The MP for South Thanet is to step down. Laura Sandys MP has announced that she will not stand at the next general election in 2015.

The Thanet South MP Laura Sandys has tweeted news of her decision to stand down at the next general election. The Conservative politician pledged to 'work tirelessly' for her constituency until she steps down.

It is with great sadness that I'm announcing today that I will not be standing at the next general election in 2015


Due to changing personal circumstances I cannot combine the level of dedication needed for Thanet, with my growing personal responsibilities


This is very difficult decision and I want to thank my colleagues, both in Thanet and Parl, who I've worked with to get the best for Thanet
