Kent lorry driver jailed for cyclist death
A lorry driver from Sittingborne has been jailed for 12 months and has been disqualified from driving after he admitted causing the death of a cyclist.
Canterbury Crown Court found Brian Walden found him not guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.
However, the 40-year-old had earlier admitted causing death by careless driving.
The cyclist, 57-year-old Stephen Van Hinsbergh from Ramsgate, died at the scene of the crash near Herne Bay on 13 August last year.
PC Glen Braidwood said: ‘This was clearly an error of judgement on the part of Mr Walden which had tragic consequences for Mr Van Hinsbergh and a devastating effect on his family."
