Hythe murder victim named

Hampshire Police are investigating the murder of a man in Hythe who died on New Year's Day.

Christopher Cerqua, aged 31, died at a house in Langdown Road.

Mr Cerqua received serious injuries in a fight and police were called at about 9pm Tuesday, December 31.

Mr Cerqua was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where he died at 10.20pm.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Totton at 2.25am Wednesday, January 1.

He remains in custody at Southampton Central.

A murder investigation has been launched after a 31-year-old man from Hythe was killed last night following a fight on New Year's Eve.

Officers were called to a house at Langdown Road in Hythe at 9pm after the victim sustained serious injuries.

He was taken to Southampton General Hospital, but was pronounced dead at the scene at 10.20pm.

Another male, who was 31-years-old, was arrested in Totton at 2.25am this morning and he is currently in custody.

The next of kin have been informed and the post mortem of the body will take place later today.

Detectives leading the investigation are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to call 101 quoting Operation Redding.
