A woman was slapped in the face as a man tried to steal her dog in Gosport.

The incident took place between 4.20pm and 4.40pm on Friday 13th December on Forton Road at the junction with Moreland Road.

The 25-year-old woman was approached by a man who tried to grab the woman’s dog, a sprocker spaniel puppy.

As the woman fought back she was slapped in the face. She managed to keep hold of the dog and ran away.

The offender is described as white, 30-40 years of age, short shaved hair, 5ft 9ins and of stocky build.

Det Con Neil Harrison said: “This is an unusual incident and believed to be opportunist. The roads would have been busy at this time and therefore we appeal for anyone who has witnessed the incident or who may have information to make contact."
