Flood waters could be around for "months"

People living on a flooded housing estate in Hampshire have been warned that water levels are likely to remain high for another two months. About 70 houses have been evacuated in Buckskin, with millions of litres of floodwater pumped out.

People living on a flooded housing estate have been told to expect water levels to remain high until April.

About 70 homes have been evacuated in Buckskin, and an estimated 77 million litres of floodwater pumped out since 8 February, when ground water began to overwhelm the drainage system

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council said it was looking at an alternative flood alleviation scheme. Its chief executive Tony Curtis said Hampshire's flood action group was looking into setting up a "mini reservoir" and using "high volume pumps" from the fire service to remove water.
