The Prime Minister David Cameron, who is also the MP for the Oxfordshire constituency of Witney, has extended good wishes to all same-sex couples holding weddings today. The ceremonies can be held after a change in the law on the stroke of midnight on Friday.

First same sex marriages take place

Following years of campaigning and opposition from some groups, gay couples across the country can now get married. At the stroke of midnight, Andrew Wale and Neil Allard from Brighton exchanged their vows in front of family and friends at the iconic Royal Pavilion. Charlotte Wilkins reports.
