Builders discovered tonnes of loose rubble beneath the road

One lane remains closed in Brighton after part of the seafront collapsed yesterday. Builders working on a pub in an archway discovered tonnes of loose rubble beneath the road.
The A259 Kings Road (seafront) is closed on one lane in both directions in Brighton, between the A2010 West Street junction and the Middle Street junction. It could be weeks before the road reopens.

A major route on Brighton seafront collapsed this morning after the surface road sunk from 'depression'. The road has been partially closed and is thought to remain shut for several weeks to ensure the internal structure is safe for all vehicles. Malcolm Shaw has been see the damage.

After the A259 in Brighton was closed earlier today following a partial collapse in the road, one lane has now re-opens.
The road near Fortune of War pub has been re-opened one lane of the eastbound carriageway - but only for light traffic and access only.
Lorries and the majority of traffic are still being diverted via the B2185 Grand Avenue and The Drive, Hove, onto the A270 Old Shoreham Road.
Traffic remains heavily congested in the city centre.

Sussex police have set up diversions for Brighton traffic after depression appeared the A259 King's Road.
There was structural damage to the eastbound carriageway near the Fortune of War pub which was discovered by workmen working at the pub.
Traffic is being diverted off the A259 Kingsway up the B2185 Grand Avenue and The Drive to join the A270 Old Shoreham Road.
Westbound traffic is being diverted from the Aquarium roundabout up the A23 via London Road to the Old Shoreham Road.
