Benali completes first leg of charity run

Former Southampton footballer Francis Benali has completed the first leg of his 1,000-mile journey to every Premier League ground.

The 45-year-old began 'Benali's Big Run' at St James' Park in Newcastle, before making his way to the Stadium of Light in Sunderland. He arrived on Wearside at around 10:45am.

Benali is now expected to arrive at the KC Stadium in Hull on Tuesday.

Benali starts his 1,000-mile charity run

Former Southampton defender Francis Benali has set off on his charity run between every Premier League ground.

The 45-year-old will spend the next three weeks completing the 1,000-mile challenge, with the aim of raising around £1 million for cancer research.

Benali spoke with ITV News before setting off from St James' Park in Newcastle this morning.

Former Southampton footballer Francis Benali has set off on a 1,000-mile charity run to every Premier League ground.

The 45-year-old, who played more than 300 games for Southampton, will be spending the next three weeks completing the challenge. He's hoping to raise around £1 million for cancer research.

Benali started the run at St James' Park in Newcastle this morning and was seen off by his former Southampton teammate and Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer.
