A34 reopens southbound after earlier lorry fire

The A34 in Hampshire has reopened southbound between the A303 Bullington and the M3 near Winchester after an earlier lorry fire.

The fire has been extinguished and fire crews have left the scene.

The A34 in Hampshire is currently closed southbound between the A303 Bullington and the M3 near Winchester due to a lorry fire.

The fire has been extinguished and fire crews have left the scene.

The road remains closed to allow recovery and to assess the carriageway.

A diversion is in place and drivers should follow the solid triangle symbol.

Motorists should use the A303 east for approximately six miles and join the M3 at junction 8, travel eastbound to junction 7 and go around the roundabout using the fourth exit to re-join the M3 southbound.

Continue along the M3 south to junction 9 for Winchester to complete the diversion.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journey and use alternative routes if possible.

Investigation launched after pedestrian killed on A303

A teenager has died and a second man remains critically injured in hospital after they were hit by a motorhome while walking on the A303 near Andover.

The 18 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on the westbound A303 at about 9pm on Friday.

The second victim, a 23-year-old man from Liss, was taken to Southampton General Hospital.

The driver of the Fiat motorhome was uninjured.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Two men were injured and three horses died after a trailer carrying 10 of the animals overturned on the A303 eastbound carriageway, after colliding with a lorry.

Seven were sedated and removed by vets and expert animal rescuers but one was killed in the crash and two had to be put down.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said the drivers of both vehicles were not seriously hurt.
