Sussex woman jailed in Bali in connection with £1.6 m drug case has been released

A woman from Sussex who was jailed for a year in Bali in connection with a £1.6 million drug smuggling case has been released.

Rachel Dougall from Brighton and her partner Julian Ponder were arrested in May 2012, after £1.6 million of cocaine was found in another woman's suitcase in Indonesia. Ponder remains in the country serving a six-year prison term.

Brighton man jailed for 6 years in Indonesia over drugs

A British man has been jailed for six years in Bali in Indonesia on drugs charges. Julian Ponder from Brighton was arrested with his partner Rachel Lisa Dougall at their rented home in the country, in a case linked to that of Lindsay Sandiford who has been sentenced to death for drug smuggling.

Sandiford told police she was given 4.79 kilograms of cocaine to give to the couple. Officers also said Ponder had been in possession of 23 grams of heroin. Dougall, also from Brighton has already been sentenced to a year in prison for failing to report a drug-related crime.

It's 10 years since a terrorist bomb exploded in Bali, killing 202 people.

Among the dead were Christopher Kays, from Reading, Douglas Warner from Dorset and Paul Husset from Hawkinge in Kent.

Relatives are calling for renewed efforts for a final suspect to stand trial as they prepare to mark the anniversary of the tragedy.

Police files on two drug smuggling suspects from Brighton have been formally handed to Bali prosecutors after more than three months of investigation.

Julian Ponder and Rachel Dougall, a couple, who lived on the holiday Island, have now been transferred to the notorious Kerobokan Jail.

Julian Ponder is charged with drug possession and trafficking. He faces 5 years to Life for the possession and the Death Penalty for the trafficking.

His partner Rachel Dougall faces a possession charge in relation to cocaine found in their villa during a police raid.

Speaking from Bali, her lawyer Ary B Soenardi said she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The crumbling prison was built to hold around three hundred inmates but houses almost a thousand.

Julian Ponder is charged with drug possession and trafficking. He faces 5 years to Life for the possession and the Death Penalty for the trafficking.

His partner Rachel Dougall faces a possession charge in relation to cocaine found in their villa during a police raid.

The couple were arrested after British woman Lindsay Sandiford was caught with cocaine in her suitcase at the Island's airport in May this year.

All are now awaiting trial.
