Woman in life threatening condition after crash

A woman's in a life threatening condition in hospital after a crash involving a van and a car in Beaminster.

Dorset Police were called to the A356 near Chedington yesterday afternoon.

The woman was taken to Dorset County Hospital by land ambulance with life-threatening injuries. Two other people have been described as walking wounded.

The road is expected to be closed for some time to allow collision investigators to examine the scene.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

“This is a very serious collision and the A356 is expected to be closed for quite a while.

“I would like to thank affected motorists for their patience during the road closure, which is necessary to allow us to establish what happened. While the closures are in place, I would urge motorists to please avoid the area and use alternative routes.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to please call Dorset Police.”

Police appeal for missing pensioner

Police in Dorset say they are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of a missing 76-year-old woman - with officers appealing for help from the public.

Sara Taylor of Beaminster has been missing from her home in the town since around 3pm on Thursday.

Insp Bob Jacobs said: "Sara can be easily confused and her family are understandably concerned that she may come to some harm.

"I believe that it's likely that Sara is still in the Beaminster area. She is reasonably fit for her age and she has been known to walk considerable distances."

Sara is white, well built, around five feet seven inches tall, with short grey hair. It's thought that she was wearing dark red trousers, a light coloured jacket and wellington boots when she was last seen.

Insp Jacobs continued: "It's important that we make sure that Sara is safe and well and I am urging anyone who has seen a woman matching Sara's description to contact police on 101.

"I am appealing for anyone with any information about Sara's whereabouts to get in touch at the earliest opportunity."

Anyone with any information or knowledge as to Sara's whereabouts should call Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident number 28:316.
