Child airlifted to hospital after jet ski collision

A child has been airlifted to hospital after two jetskis collided off Calshot Spit in the Solent.

The air ambulance, coastguard and lifeboat crews were involved in the rescue this afternoon after two adults and two children ended up in the water.

Hampshire police, Helimed and South Central Ambulance were also at the scene.

The extent of the youngster's injuries isn't yet known, but they were airlifted to Southampton General shortly after 2pm.

An investigation's been launched into the incident.

Beach huts broken into

Police at Hythe in Hampshire are investigating after 17 beach huts were broken into or damaged shortly before Christmas.

Between 2pm Saturday and 8am Sunday, December 22 and 23, thieves cut off padlocks and broke into the huts. Cutlery, gas cylinders and tea towels were stolen.

Police want to hear from anyone who noticed vehicles parked in the area of Calshot Beach at the time.

Jet skier hurt after shoreline accident

A jet skier was left with serious leg injuries after an accident of Calshot Spit in Hampshire yesterday. The man in his twenties had been riding his machine when he fell off and caugt his leg. He was brought to shore by friends and was given emergency treatment by a doctor from Calshot lifeboat.

The casualty was then stretchered further in land by crew from Calshot assisted by Hamble lifeboat and staff from Solent Coastguard who were also in attendance. He was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Calshot Tower to officially take on emergency role

100 volunteers have been keeping a watchful eye over our waters for the last two years but the team at Calshot in Hampshire has officially become part of the Maritime Search and Rescue Emergency services.

The tower which overlooks Southampton Water from Portsmouth to Yarmouth is one of the most iconic watch stations along our coastline .
