It played a vital role in the two World Wars. Its underground tunnels were integral in the Dunkirk evacuation, when it became the command centre for the Royal Navy. But the history of Dover Castle stretches back many more centuries. Today families were given a glimpse of some of its rich past as Derek Johnson reports.
A 32-year-old man has pleaded guilty to trespassing in the grounds of Windsor Castle, after he scaled an 8 foot high fence while drunk.
Robert Pennefather admitted to climbing the gate near the Queen's living quarters in November of last year.
Armed police pounced on him soon after he entered the grounds.
He received a 14-day prison sentence suspended for 12 months and is banned from drinking in any UK and Northern Ireland pub during that time
