IT company Computer Sciences Corporation, based in Aldershot, announced today it would be losing 640 jobs. Our reporter Penny Silvester was at CSC earlier, and sent this report on the implications of the cuts.

The Aldershot based IT firm Computer Sciences Corporation has confirmed that it has started a formal 90 day consultation process which could cut the number of people working for its UK business by up to a maximum of 640 people. The company provided the following statement:

Following the announcement that jobs at CSC in Aldershot are at risk the Unite union said workers were left feeling devastated.
Unite national officer, Kevin O’Gallagher, said: “This announcement of a further 640 job cuts has dealt our members a severe body blow and left them absolutely devastated.
“We have put forward a detailed plan which will avoid any compulsory redundancies in the company, however these plans have not been taken up and CSC is insistent on issuing compulsory redundancy notices despite receiving a sufficient number of volunteer requests to leave the company."
The Unite union says around 640 jobs are to go across the country at the IT firm CSC (Computer Sciences Corporation). The company is based in Aldershot but has offices nationwide.
