Video. The number of dangerous dogs taken from their owners has risen dramatically in the region. Figures obtained exclusively by ITV Meridian shows that, in Sussex alone, the number of pets seized has more than tripled in just 2 years.
The police say they are taking a pro-active approach to dogs that attack people or animals. But the Kennel Club says the law on dangerous dogs demonises certain breeds, and needs changing.
Malcolm Shaw spoke to Tom Powell, who was attacked whilst taking his Yorkshire Terrier out for a walk, Diane Lewis from Sussex Police, Victoria Brownlie from the Kennel Club and Di Morgan who runs a dog obedience group in Brighton.
VIDEO: A woman who was mauled when she tried to stop two dogs from attacking a man in Hastings, fears she will lose her home. Sharron Brooker's injuries were so severe that she hasn't been able to work properly since the incident. Charlotte Wilkins reports.
