Three giant cooling towers have been demolished to make way for a new green energy plant near Sandwich in Kent. It's hoped it'll bring hundreds of desperately needed jobs to the area a year after the Pfizer site nearby closed.
Richborough Cooling Towers near Sandwich were blown up at 9am this morning in a controlled explosion. They've been standing for five decades but are now being removed to make way for a new 'eco plant'.
It's hoped the new plans for the site will create a substantial number of jobs for Kent. It's hoped it'll provide vital regeneration for the area a year after two thousand jobs were lost at the Pfizer plant in Sandwich.
