He was killed when a punctured tyre he was fixing exploded in his face. Matthew Hoare was a fitter at Watling Tyres in Canterbury when he died. Now one of the company directors has gone on trial accused of failing to implement health and safety guidelines. Andew Wright is facing two charges over the death, which he denies. Up to fifteen firefighters tackled a blaze that damaged two boats at Fareham Creek in Hampshire this afternoon. They found one 40-foot trader motor cruiser and a 40-foot sail boat alight. No one was injured. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.

Sussex Police are investigating an explosion at a house on Hillrise Avenue in Sompting. It happened at 4.15pm on Thursday 20th September.
A man in his fifties was pulled from the burning property by passers-by. He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton to be treated for shock.
