The Fire Brigades Union has announced eight days of strike action this month. They are involved in a national dispute over changes to firefighters' pensions.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue service say they've put contingency plans in place to provide a level of cover during the strike periods.

Acting Assistant Chief Fire Officer Andy Mancey said: “We will be putting contingency arrangements in place again and we will still be answering and responding to emergency calls. However, because we will have fewer resources than usual, we will be giving priority to incidents where people’s lives are at risk, such as house fires and serious road traffic collisions.

Second Fire Brigades Union strike announced

The Fire Brigades Union will take industrial action, for five hours on Saturday 19 October. It is the second period of industrial action in the national dispute over pensions. East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service say they have contingency plans in place.

We remain fully committed to keeping our communities safe throughout this dispute. Our contingency plans will provide emergency cover but this is inevitably below our usual level. We are asking members of the public to do what they can to reduce the risk of fire and limit the number of incidents that we are called out to.”
