Man who shot himself in doctor's surgery is named

An 86-year-old man who shot himself dead inside a doctor's surgery yesterday has been named locally as Brian Poingdestre.

Mr Poingdestre entered the men's toilet at the Station Road surgery in Frimley before turning the gun on himself yesterday morning.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said that details of the pensioner's death had been passed to the Surrey coroner.

A post mortem examination was due to carried out on his body and an inquest will be opened at a later date.

Investigations carried out after man shoots himself

Police are investigating how and why a pensioner shot himself dead at a doctor's surgery in Surrey.

The man, who was 86-years-old, is understood to have killed himself at the Station Road surgery in Frimley yesterday morning.

Officers and emergency crew were called at 11am when they received reports that a firearm had been discharged.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his death is not being treated as suspicious.

A post-mortem will be carried out later this week.

Surrey Police was called to a doctor's surgery in Station Road, Frimley just before 11am this morning following reports of a sudden death. Officers and other emergency services attended the location after reports that a firearm had been discharged inside the building.

The body of a man, believed to be in his 80's, was discovered at the scene, where he was pronounced dead. Officers are carrying out a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death but at this stage there is no indication of any third party involvement or wider risk to the local community."

"Officers are currently in attendance at a location in Frimley following a report of a sudden death of a man. A cordon is in place at the surgery in Station Road after officers were called to the scene just before 11am.

An investigation is currently underway into the circumstances surrounding the incident."
