Gas leak in Reading

A cordon is in place in the Calcot area of Reading due to an ongoing gas leak.

Thames Valley Police were called at 7.19am to a report of a gas leak near Calcot Golf Club, after a fallen tree damaged a gas pipe.

Police officers and firefighters from the Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service have enforced a 560m cordon for the safety of the public.

Approximately 40 properties are being evacuated.


Families evacuated after gas leak

People have been evacuated from their homes on the Isle of Wight after a car drove into a gas main. The accident happened at Pier Street in Ventnor on the island . The car punctured a gas main at a property and the police have partially evacuated the road as a precaution.

It's not known how many people have had to be evacuated but no one is believed to have been injured. Police and fire crews are at the scene.

Suspected gas leak: building evacuated

46 people have left their offices in Southampton after a suspected gas leak.

Firefighters said people were suffering from nausea at Nursling Industrial Estate after an unknown smell, believed to be gas, was detected. Crews were alerted just before 7.30am.

"The smell was believed to be coming from the mezzanine floor of the industrial unit.

"Following an evacuation, a specialist hazardous materials team of three entered the premises in gas protection equipment and found no hazardous substances. The team then vented the premises and stood down at 10:25hrs.”
