£6 million grant to help bring 15,000 homes to Didcot

Plans to bring 15 thousand new homes to Didcot are a step closer with news of a £6 million government grant.

It will be used to improve the area's transport network and deliver the 'Northern Perimeter Road'.

It's part of the new Didcot Garden Town which should be complete by 2031.

It's hoped the route will lead to faster journeys and less congestion.

Millions of pounds for Canterbury Cathedral

Canterbury Cathedral has won the Lottery. It's beaten off the competition and landed a 12 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The cash wil be used to restore the building's crumbling fabric and to create a new visitors centre.

But the payout is conditional on the cathedral raising seven million pounds over the next two years. John Ryall reports, speaking to Rev Nick Papadopulous, Angela Dean from the Heritage Lottery Fund, and Schools Officer Zoe Willis.

Cash handed to Oxford charities

The Chiltern Centre and TRAIN have been awarded nearly £200,000 over four years by South Oxfordshire District Council. The cash will pay for running costs such as staffing, heating, administration or rent.

The Chiltern Centre offers children and young people with disabilities help to live life to the full. TRAIN works with "at risk" 14-18 year olds, offering support with solving problems. 13 other organisations have also been funded.
