A rapist has been detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act after being found guilty of rape and sexual assault.

Following a trial at Hove Crown Court, Timothy Perkins was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order under section 37 of the Mental Health Act.

The trial heard that Perkins was arrested for raping a 24-year-old woman at her home in Bexhill after they met on an internet dating site.

After the case, Detective Constable Carol Shoesmith said, "Perkins shows a total disregard for the devastating effect his abuse had on his victim."
