Firefighters urged people to stay away from lakes and waterways after a woman caused a full-scale alert by walking 30 metres across a frozen reservoir when her dog fell through the ice.
Two crews and a rescue boat were called to Worlds End Lane, Weston Turville, at 3.15pm yesterday, along with police officers, an ambulance and an air ambulance.
As they arrived they found that the woman and dog had left the scene.
Gary Taylor from Aylesbury Fire Station, who also attended the incident, said: "It stands to reason that if the ice can't support the weight of a dog, a human shouldn't venture on to it.
"Please don't risk your life in a situation like this. Over the years, many other people have not been so lucky."
