Corporal McCarthy was assigned to RAF Brize Norton in July 2009 where he volunteered to deploy with 174 Provost Company, 3rd Regiment Royal Military Police as part of the Theatre Provost Group.
During his pre-deployment training Corporal McCarthy showed an aptitude for mentoring and was a natural choice to embed with the Welsh Guards as part of the Police Mentoring Advisory Group.

An airman based at RAF Brize Norton was one of two servicemen killed in Afghanistan. Corporal Brent John McCarthy and Lance Corporal Lee Thomas Davies, from the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, were shot by someone dressed as a member of the Afghan Police Force in Helmand province on Saturday.
They were serving as part of an advisory team and were providing security for a meeting with local officials when the attack happened. Cpl McCarthy was assigned to RAF Brize Norton in July 2009, where he volunteered to deploy with 174 Provost Company, 3rd Regiment Royal Military Police.
Police in Kent are investigating a collision where an elderly woman was killed.
The incident in Mount Pleasant Road in Tunbridge Wells happened yesterday after a white Ford Transit van collided with the pensioner near to the railway station.
Ambulance crews attended, but were unable to revive the woman who sustained a head injury.

An Albanian man who admitted beheading another man at an Oxfordshire golf club with a weapon believed to be a cheese knife has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Johnathan Limani killed restaurant manager Chris Varian in August 2010.
The 34 year old waiter pleaded guilty to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility.
Limani has been sentenced to life behind bars with minimum tariff of 19 years - but a judge ruled he must go to Broadmoor Hospital and if is ever released from there then he must go to prison
