East Sussex election results: full report

In East Sussex the Conservatives lost overall control of the council after losing nine seats, with UKIP again performing strongly. However the Tories remain the largest single party on the authority.

The new make up of the council is Conservatives 20, Lib Dems 10, Labour 7, UKIP 7 and five independents.

Labour is also celebrating after it's councillors won seven of the eight seats in Hastings, prompting a visit from Labour leader Ed Milliband. Malcolm Shaw has our report.

Kent election results: full report

The Conservatives have kept control of county hall in Kent - just; but tonight it is UKIP who are celebrating after winning seats on the council, seven of them in Thanet.

History was made as UKIP became the official opposition party on the authority, and the green party won their first seat on the council - winning from a conservative. A leading Kent Tory said they had to learn the lessons and 'reconnect' with their core voters.

The new make up of the council is Conservatives 45, UKIP 17 , Labour 13, Lib Dems 7 and 2 others including Kent's first Green county councillor. John Ryall sent this report just before the final results came in.
