Highways England warns of long delays on M2

Work is continuing to repair a crash barrier on the westbound M2 at Junction 5, following a lorry crash.

Highways England is hoping to re-open the carriageway later this afternoon.

They're warning drivers to follow the diversions and allow extra time.

The London-bound M2 could be closed for much of the day after a lorry crashed through a barrier earlier this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision, at Junction 5 for the A249, at 4.55am.

No other vehicles were involved and police said no injuries were reported.

The west-bound carriageway is closed and long delays have built up on the approach.

Traffic is being diverted off the M2 at the exit slip for Junction 5, around the Stockbury roundabout and back on at the entry slip towards London.

The Highways Agency hopes to re-open the carriageway soon after 2.00pm this afternoon.

Londonbound motorway reopened

The M2's been reopened Londonbound after an accident near Junction Five, Sittingbourne. Long queues built up between 6 and 5, before the outside carriageway was cleared. A vehicle overturned; the driver suffered non life threatening injuries.

People walking along M2 hard shoulder

The coast-bound carriageway on the M2 is currently closed while vehicles from a car crash are being recovered.

Car passengers have been stuck in queues for hours and some have been walking along the hard shoulder of the motorway.

The two vehicle collision involved a white Renault lorry and a black Ford Transit.

The man was taken by air ambulance with serious injuries and another man had minor injuries.

The coast-bound carriageway on the M2 is currently closed while vehicles from a car crash this morning are recovered.

A two vehicle collision happened at 6am this morning between J6 for Faversham and J7 at Brenley Corner

The carriageway is likely to be reopened by midday.

The incident involved a white Renault lorry and a black Ford Transit.

The man was taken by air ambulance with serious injuries and another man had minor injuries.
