There won't be dancing in the streets in Reading this summer.

The town's carnival has been cancelled for the second year running because of lack of funds.

The carnival's been run by the town's Caribbean community since the seventies - and they're hoping to hold a smaller event in Prospect Park but there won't be a traditional procession.

Council reacts to carnival news

Reading Borough Council has put out a statement following the news that the town's carnival will not be running this year.

We are sorry to hear that Reading Carnival has been cancelled for this year. Reading Borough Council has been pleased to support this important cultural event with finance and officer time over the years, and even in these difficult economic times, we remain committed to doing so in the future. We will be sitting down with the Carnival organisers to discuss their plans and agree how we can support the 2014 event to ensure that the Carnival is put on a sustainable financial footing and that it continues to play a key part in the borough’s cultural calendar.”**
