A yachtsman has suffered serious head injuries while his team practised for the Round the Island Race in the Solent.
Cowes RNLI Lifeboat was launched yesterday afternoon when the man in his thirties was thrown onto a winch handle by a rope outside Cowes Harbour.
He was unconscious and was taken to hospital with head injuries.
The JP Morgan Round the Island race saw a dramatic rescue today as one sailor was airlifted to hospital after she was knocked unconscious. Sally Simmonds reports on the day's action.
A sailor has been airlifted to hospital after they were knocked unconscious on the Round the Island race on the Isle of Wight.
They were unconscious for a long period of time with head injuries and an air ambulance flew them to Southampton General Hospital.
In a statement the Skipper Tony Newburry, of Ragtime II said:
Video. It's been a lovely warm and sunny day but the weather hasn't been kind to the sailors taking part in this years Round the Island yacht race.
