Sailor recovering after being airlifted to hospital

A sailor has been airlifted to hospital after they were knocked unconscious on the Round the Island race on the Isle of Wight.

They were unconscious for a long period of time with head injuries and an air ambulance flew them to Southampton General Hospital.

In a statement the Skipper Tony Newburry, of Ragtime II said:

"A head injury was sustained on Ragtime II. The casualty became unconscious and was transferred to Southampton General Hospital by helicopter. The casualty is now conscious and understood to be responding well to treatment."
