Royal Television Society judges ITV Meridian 'News Programme of the Year'

The award was presented to the ITV Meridian team at the RTS Southern Centre's annual awards in Winchester. The award was for the team's coverage of the fire at Eastbourne Pier last summer - the judges praised the quality of journalism, production and presentation on one of the biggest stories of the year. They praised the team for the coverage and : " the range of items, speed ofreaction and the sheer chutzpah of being there at the right time"

It wasn't the only prize for ITV Meridian at the annual news awards. Social Affairs Correspondent Christine Alsford, was judged to be the best News video-journalist - acclaimed for the great quality of her journalism and her camerawork, they said she won the award for: "achieving a closeness which turned everyday stories into something more insightful."
