Fire rips through former school in Sussex

More than 30 firefighters have been tackling a blaze at a former school in Sussex.

The fire broke out in Furnace Road in Furnace, Crawley, shortly after lunch.

As a precaution a 200 metre cordon was put in place. The cause of the fire, which damaged 50 per cent of the building is being investigated.

Model joins parents in fight for free school

Model Katie Price wants to set up a free school in Kent to help children with visual impairment and other disibilities.

The 34-year-old has joined forces with other parents to prepare a bid for government funding - backed by Kent County Council.

Her 10-year-old son Harvey - who is visually impaired - could be among the pupils if the school is given the go-ahead.

Concern for missing father

Kent Police are concerned for 52-year-old Nicholas Cott who is missing from his home in Eastry near Sandwich. He was last seen on Friday morning. He did not pick up his son from school in the afternoon and his disappearance is described as out of character. He is 5ft 8ins tall with brown hair.

Counselling after school stabbing

Pupils and staff at Sittingbourne Community College have been given counselling after a teenage boy was stabbed during a football match.

Alex Betts was attacked with a pair of scissors on Friday. A 17-year-old, who wasn't a pupil at the school, has been questioned and released on bail.
