Flooded school set to reopen to pupils

Pupils at a school in Winchester, which had to relocate due to flooding, are returning today. St Bede Church of England Primary had to move its lessons to another school when the drains stopped working properly leading to the playground being underwater.

A phased return is starting today, with everyone back by Friday.

Louise Fitzpatrick, Head Teacher at St Bede Church of England Primary School, said: "I am delighted that we are able to re-open the school sooner than expected.

Our priority during the floods has been to maintain the children's education with as little interruption as possible. Over the rest of this week, we will be working hard to get the school set up and running ready for the pupils to start returning from 3 March.

I am very grateful to the County Council, Henry Beaufort School, The Westgate School and Kings' School for coming to our aid, as well as to the staff and parents who have been so supportive during this challenging time."
