Witness appeal after collision in Sussex

Sussex Police are appealing for information after a pedestrian was seriously injured in a collision with a car in London Road in St Leonards-on-Sea.

Officers were called to the scene on Saturday 5th January. The collision between a silver Nissan and a 31-year-old local man happened at around 3.50pm.

The pedestrian was taken to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings suffering from serious, but not life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Nissan, a 24-year-old local man, was not injured.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 0882 of 5/1.

Man arrested over torture allegations

Scotland Yard has confirmed the arrest of a 46-year-old man in East Sussex on suspicion of torture carried out during the civil war in Nepal.

Counter-terrorism officers held the man in St Leonards-on-Sea and he is being questioned at a police station in the county.

The unit is responsible for investigating alleged war crimes and human rights abuses, and the arrest relates to claims that acts of torture were committed in Nepal in 2005.
