Four people released on bail after shooting

Four people arrested after a shooting in Southampton have been released on bail. Unemployed 23-year-old Jamal Jones died from gunshot wounds after being fired upon at a property in St Mary Street, Southampton, on Saturday April 20th.

A 36-year-old woman and three men aged 41, 21 and 18, all from Southampton, have been bailed pending further inquiries until June 11. Detectives have sought to reassure the local community by saying they believe the incident was isolated and related to the criminal activity of those involved.

We do not believe the public are in any danger as we are following a number of lines of inquiry that cause us to believe at this time this is a drug-related incident where the victim and suspects were known to each other in some way, and this incident has occurred as a result of their criminal activity.

Extra officers to 'reassure the community'

Since Saturday we have had extra officers in the area to assist with the HMIT investigation and to support and reassure the community through what we realise is a worrying time for them.

No-one expects this kind of incident to happen in their community and we understand that it has left many people with unanswered questions and that people may have been left unsettled by this act of violence."

Police given more time to question shooting suspects

Police investigating the murder of 23 year old Jamal Jones in Southampton on Saturday have been granted more time to question four people.

The 36-year-old woman and three men aged 41, 21 and 18, all from Southampton, remain in custody.

A 21-year-old woman arrested in connection with the murder has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

A post-mortem examination on the victim’s body revealed he died as a result of a shot gun wound to the head.

A young man shot dead in Hampshire in a suspected drug-related feud has been named as detectives questioned five people on suspicion of his murder.

The murder weapon has not been recovered but police are quizzing five people believed to have been in the area at the time of the killing.

A young man shot dead in a suspected drug-related feud has been named as detectives question five people on suspicion of his murder.

Police name victim

The man man fatally shot in Southampton yesterday was Jamal Jones who was 23 and from Lyon Street in the city. He died following a gun shot from what is believed to be a hand gun. Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident. Chief Inspector Craig Dibdin said:

Arrests after man dies from gunshot wound

Hampshire Police has arrested two people after a man died from gunshot wounds in Southampton.

A 36-year-old female and a 41- year-old male were arrested at the scene in St Mary Street, Southampton at 11am today.

Police say they are conducting enquiries to establish how many other people are connected with the incident but believe the individuals involved were all known to each other.

No further details about the dead man have been released as formal identification has not taken place yet and next of kin still need to be informed.
