An investigation into video which appeared to show a Sussex police officer kicking a man after he was shot with a Taser has found no evidence of misconduct. Police had been called to a supermarket in Brighton after a member of staff was pushed to the ground by a man who was trying to steal food .

Police traced the man to the seafront and confirmed that it had been necessary to Taser him in order to carry out a safe arrest. The incident was filmed by a member of the public, and the video appeared to show the man being kicked forcefully in the leg after he is shot with the Taser gun.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission viewed the footage but did not feel it showed any evidence of misconduct. Sussex Police said the sweeping strike to the leg seen in the film is a technique taught to all officers as a way to arrest a suspect who is being aggressive.
