Car hit other vehicles and plunged across pavement before smashing into coffee shop store front

An Audi which crashed into a coffee shop window in Westerham this morning, killing one and seriously injuring 4 others had been driving erratically for half-a-mile according to witness reports.

Police have confirmed that the driver of the car 'lost control' before the incident at the Costa coffee shop - and had hit at least 2 other vehicles and plunged across the pavement before coming to a standstill in the storefront.

Police say the Audi which crashed into a coffee shop window in Westerham this morning, 'lost control and hit a couple of cars' before smashing through the costa shop front.

One woman was killed and four others seriously injured in the incident.

Chief Inspector Roscoe Walford said the vehicle also drove across the pavement before plunging into the busy coffee shop.

Witness describes car 'shooting across the pavement' before coffee shop crash

A Westerham resident has described the moment an Audi went 'shooting across the pavement' before ploughing into the front of a Costa coffee shop, as he met with friends at another coffee shop across the road.

Michael Rudkin said the car was 'embedded' in the Costa store front.

The incident happened in Westerham, near Sevenoaks at 10.30 am.

One woman in her 70s has died and five other people were injured, four seriously.

Shop assistant threatened with screwdriver in Kent

Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to, after a shop assistant says he was threatened with a screwdriver in Westerham.

He handed a £5 note to the shopkeeper to pay for a packet of cornish pasties.

The victim says when he went to open the till, the suspect grabbed a handful of cash while threatening the shopkeeper with a screwdriver.

He then left the shop and ran away in the direction of Hartley Road.

It happened at about 3.45pm on Thursday 6 August 2015.

Concerns for missing pensioner

Kent Police are appealing for the public’s help in finding an 81 year-old woman reported missing from her Westerham home.

Margaret Payne is 81 years-old and was reported missing to Kent Police on 3 May.

Police are growing increasingly concerned for her welfare and are asking anyone who has any information to call officers. Anyone with information can contact Kent Police by calling 101, quoting incident reference 03-1022

Fears of flooding on River Darent

The Environment Agency is warning that an area from Westerham to Sevenoaks is at risk of flooding following heavy rain last night.

River levels in the River Darent are rising rapidly and property flooding is expected this morning.

Properties in Westerham, Brasted and Sundridge are considered most at risk.

The Environment Agency says it expects river levels to keep rising until early afternoon.
