'Boris bikes' scheme for South East

Rail passengers who use stations across the region will be able to hire bikes to continue their journeys as part of a new Government initiative.

In a scheme similar to the so-called "Boris bikes" in London, passengers will be able to hire cycles at Oxford, Reading, Ashford International, Canterbury West, Maidstone East and Tonbridge.

£250,000 has been given to train companies by the Government to promote the use of bikes for onward travel from stations. Train operators are also looking at ways of including bike hire in the price of a rail ticket.
