An operation cracking down on burglary in Basildon has resulted in a 30% fall in crime, say police in Essex.
They say the warm weather has encouraged people to leave windows open, but their presence in the town has stopped opportunistic thieves.
Police in Essex say they're tackling burglars who've been taking advantage of the warm weather. Too many homeowners are leaving windows open, they say. But an increased police presence in Basildon has reduced burglary there by 30 per cent.
