Fuel poverty death toll rises

Scientists say over 40 people die as a result of fuel poverty each year in Oxford. Energy researcher Brenda Boardman will explore the question of fuel poverty in a presentation. Each year people die because of the cold and because their homes are poorly heated and poorly insulated.

She blames the cost of energy having doubled in recent years, which she suggests will make figures even more alarming. Britain has one of the highest rates of excess winter deaths in Europe.
