20 arrests in drugs crackdown

21 people have been arrested in a police crackdown on drug-related violent crimes in Southampton.

As part of Operation Fortress, launched a month ago, 16 warrants and searches have been carried out on properties in Southampton, Totton and London.

Class A drugs worth thousands of pounds seized on Southampton's streets.

Detective Superintendent Kath Barnes of Hampshire Constabulary said: “We want to make Southampton a hostile environment for anyone intent on bringing drugs and violence into our city. Everything we’re doing is geared towards achieving this while reducing the demand for drugs".
