Train and station evacuated

A train full of passengers heading to Reading and London from Wales has tonight been evacuated at Bristol. Meridian understands two unattended bags were spotted by passengers. It will mean delays on the Great Western mainline.

UPDATE: Train evacuated after security scare

A major security alert is tonight in operation on the Great Western mainline.The train at the centre of the alert is the 3.28pm Swansea to London and due to Stop at Swindon and Reading.

It is understood an unattended bag was spotted and the alarm raised.All passengers have been evacuated from the train at Bristol Parkway and the station has also been evacuated.Anti-terror police have been called to the scene.

Passengers were told to leave everything on the train and evacuate.Trains are not stopping at the station and delays on the Paddington line are expected for some time.The situation is ongoing.

“I can confirm that BTP was called to Bristol Parkway rail station on Thursday, 26 July, following a security alert.

“The incident was reported to BTP at 5.04pm

“Officers are at the scene carrying out an investigation into an unattended package onboard the 3.28pm Swansea to London Paddington service.

“The train has been evacuated and the station is currently closed, with no trains stopping.”
