A former policeman from Southampton has been jailed for ten years for repeatedly punching his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach in March 2011. The court heard Matthew Cherry had been trying to bring on a miscarriage.

Cherry denied attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, but the jury at Winchester Crown Court rejected his claim.
