Sussex Police have closed a footbridge in Shoreham after a suspected ordnance was uncovered in the river.
Workers excavating the bridge called the police at 12:40pm when they discovered the old explosive.
The footbridge and Coronation Green are currently closed while the bomb disposal squad make the device safe.
We are working to minimise the disruption to users of the footbridge while also ensuring that the public remain safe. We would like to thank everyone for their understanding and patience while the assessment is being carried out."
