A record 430 cruise ships will visit Southampton next year according to figures released today. It confirms the port as the cruise capital of Europe. It will mean the industry will for the first time be worth more than one billion pounds to the local economy.
It is estimated that every time a ship visits Southampton it is worth £2.5m to local suppliers of food, goods and services. Despite the economic situation 20,000 more passengers than expected passed through the port this year. That figure is expected to again grow next year.
