A flood alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for the River Thames and tributaries in the Oxford area, including areas between Wolvercote down to and including Radley and Jericho.
Low lying land and roads will be affected first.
The River Thames has responded to yesterday's rainfall and spilled out into the floodplain in the Oxford area.
"Levels will continue to remain high today and there may be standing water in the floodplain. River levels are expected to rise again in response to tonights forecast rainfall.
"The weather prospects are: scattered showers are expected throughout today, and a band of persistent rain is forecast to bring further rainfall this evening and overnight.
"The outlook remains unsettled going into the weekend with further showers forecast for Saturday and Sunday."
