Second pensioner dies in Newbury incident - police statement

Thames Valley Police is continuing its investigation into the unexplained death of an 89-year-old woman, whose body was discovered in a property in Berkeley Road yesterday.

A 94-year-old man also discovered in the home was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford but subsequently died last night as a result of his injuries.

Forensic post mortems are expected to be carried out today.

Next of kin have been informed but formal identification has yet to take place.

We are continuing to treat both of these deaths as unexplained until the post mortem results are known.

“We are yet to determine fully the circumstances which led to these people’s deaths and will keep an open mind until all forensic tests and investigative searches are carried out on the property where they were found.”

– Det Ch Insp Gill Wootton
