Local residents are being warned to be on their guard against strangers knocking at their door claiming to be dustmen and asking for Christmas tips.
The advice follows reports in some parts of the district of householders being asked for money.
Residents have been approached by a man wearing a hi-vis vest claiming to work for waste contractors Biffa, who collect on behalf of East Hampshire District Council and Winchester City Council.
