The new Eastleigh MP is expected to take his place at the House of Commons today. The Liberal Democrats held onto the seat in Thursday's by-election triggered by the resignation of disgraced Cabinet Minister Chris Huhne.

Local Councillor Mike Thornton took 32% of the votes with UKIP nudging the Conservatives into third.
