Hampshire Police have said there is no threat to the public after staff at a waste recycling centre found a suspicious item in a recycling bin.
The item was discovered at the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Bedford Road in Petersfield shortly after 9am this morning. The site has been closed off.
The army's explosives ordinance division is en route to offer assistance and advice. Police officers said the item has been secured and the area has been cordoned off as a precaution, but that the public is not at risk. Local roads will be affected by the exclusion zone.
